Program Legal Statement

Animal Advocates is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), all volunteer, animal welfare organization involved in the rescue, care and placement of companion animals. Serving the Pittsburgh area since 1984, Animal Advocates has adhered to a no-kill policy and engaged in community-based advocacy on behalf of animals since its inception. We believe the relationship between a human and companion animal is an important bond that improves the physical and social well-being of individuals and the community at large.

At the heart of the organization’s mission is a belief that every animal deserves compassion and sanctuary. Many of our animals have been rescued from dangerous situations or surrendered by owners experiencing hardships. Other animals are found abandoned or retrieved from open admission, high-kill shelters. Many require extensive and costly veterinary treatments. We aim to provide the highest quality care for the well-being of rescued animals until they are placed in forever homes.

Animal Advocates has no compensated staff members, which enables 100% of all funding to be directed towards the animals’ care. Revenue is generated from donations, grants and all sales from our resale boutique – located at 35 Wabash Street in Pittsburgh’s historic West End neighborhood. It is the resourcefulness and perseverance of dedicated volunteers, along with the generosity of donors, who have ensured the steadfast commitment to our mission – saving thousands of lives since the founding of Animal Advocates.
